Somatic Wellness Coaching

Somatic, derived from the Greek word, “soma”, means the living body in its wholeness. We are more than just muscles and bones.

Research shows us that our minds and emotions affect our bodies. We also know that the relative health or “dis-ease” of our body affects our mind and emotions. For example, we all know that if we are under stress it affects our immune system and makes it easier for us to catch a cold. It is also true that people with chronic pain may feel depressed.

In Somatic Therapy, the focus is on the whole person: body, mind, spirit, and emotions. Through the conscious use of movement, stillness, and focus, we become more aware of how these things are interrelated, and then we can begin to work with them. Through this process, we can achieve optimal health and develop our full potential.

Benefits

I will guide you through exercises that focus on the conscious use of movement, stillness and presence. You will gain awareness of how you hold yourself when you are under stress and how you can decrease your stress by releasing that tension in your body. You will become more aware of how these things are interrelated, and then we can work with them. Through this process, you can achieve optimal health and develop your full potential. 

Exercise, nutrition, sleep hygiene, stress-reduction, herbal and complementary medicines are all things that we can look at together and that will affect your system and bring about positive changes. Every person’s system of health is unique and responds to different modalities, I will help you find what works best for you.

My background in Physical Therapy allows me to help you find safe and productive ways to move and not get hurt doing it. We can build a program of therapeutic exercise, stretching and self-myofascial release that you can do at home that will get you out of pain and back to doing what you love.

By using embodied mindfulness and meditation techniques we can release anxiety and stress and become more in touch with our inner selves. We will practice mindfulness in all of our sessions and I will also teach you techniques that you can use in your daily life.

Reiki is to aid in relaxation, relieve stress, reduce fatigue, assist in the body’s natural healing processes, and develop emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. I have been a bodyworker for over 30 years and have training in many techniques and am also a Reiki Master. I can show you self-care techniques you can do at home and I am also trained to be able to work from a distance, energetically with people.

I am a consultant and distributor for flower essences and herbal salves and can help you choose what natural remedies may be of the most help to you. They can help balance and support healing of the emotions, body, mind and spirit. They can be used with children and pets as well. I use them daily and would love to share them with you!
